Say something to me, anything at all.
I need to hear you speak.
I need to hear those words.
Those final words as you take your last breath.

Your eyes seem calm,
But I can see beads of sweat upon your gentle face.
What's playing out behind your mind's curtain.
The last scene of a play.
That wrote your life.
The life of a great man.

Can you see me, can you feel me here.
I came for you, only you.
I won't leave your side.
The one promise I intend to keep.
I clasp your hand and whisper to you,
Everything will be all right.
This I can't promise to you.

The steady rise and fall as you gently breathe the same air as me,
Keeps me sane while we wait,
Drowns me in content as my mind focuses on something long gone.
I see this as something about my grandpa, though none of this really happened, I was only like 7 when he died, and I hardly knew anything of it at the time. I only knew he was really sick.

It's a lovely, touching piece. While I employ some of the same expressive types of construction in my own work, I always look for the play of sounds off of, or with each other in phrases. Sibilance (s's) are the first to draw the lips, and w's and c's follow closely and I love how some of your phrases pull and play at each other. It's nice to see someone move out of traditional forms and still maintain some of the nature of song and spoken word in their work.
